About SpaySecure

What is SpaySecure?
SpaySecure is a compliance platform that allows responsible pet breeders and rescue operations to let pets go home unsterilized. Pet owners sign binding contracts with SpaySecure in which they agree to spay or neuter their pet by a given date. This provides an alternative to early spay/neuter, allowing better health outcomes and time for the animal to develop.
Why are you contacting us?
SpaySecure frequently reaches out to vet clinics on behalf of our mutual clients to confirm pet and owner information, to confirm that a given procedure was done, and to ensure that deadlines can be extended when necessary.
What does responding to SpaySecure do?
You help us confirm that a pet was sterilized, or that a procedure needs to wait for a medical reason. That settles the client's record without us going back to them again.
What do you need from us?
The date of the procedure, the microchip number if you have one on file, and enough detail to confirm the pet is the one in our record, usually the pet's name, breed, colour, weight and date of birth. A completed Vet Attestation Form covers all of it in one document.

Microchips

We only scan chips we placed ourselves. Is that a problem?
Scanning at the appointment is how we confirm the paperwork belongs to that pet rather than another animal, which is why we ask even for chips placed elsewhere. It is uncommon for a pet under a SpaySecure agreement to go home without one, so there is usually a number to find. If no chip is found, we ask the owner to have one placed at their own expense and to record that number with us.

Privacy and records

What allows SpaySecure to see our client's information?
Each client signs a binding agreement with us in which they agree to provide their pet's medical records to SpaySecure for the purpose of confirming sterilization compliance. We can provide a signed authorization on request, or defer to the owner for permission.
What does SpaySecure do with our client information?
We may use the information you give us to approve, reject, or request more information from buyers, and to provide that information to their breeders or rescues.

Other situations

This is not our patient.
Then we have the wrong clinic, and we would appreciate knowing. No further action needed on your side.
You are reaching the wrong person here. Can you use a different address or number?
Yes. Send us the address or line you would prefer and we will use it from then on. Getting this right saves your front desk the interruption.
We are busy. Can SpaySecure leave us alone?
We understand this can seem unnecessary, but vet clinics and SpaySecure share the same mission of responsible pet ownership. Our goal is to see pets safely sterilized. Once you confirm a procedure, we stop contacting you about that pet. If you would rather we routed these somewhere else, tell us where and we will use it.
